Warrenville, IL -- Power Trends, Inc. has just introduced a new series of 15 Amp, +5V to +3.3V Power Modules and Current Boosters. The new PT7700 Series, dubbed the "Big Hammer", is designed to supply low-voltage power to virtually any of the new current-hungry megaprocessors. The PT7700 series has been designed to work in parallel with one or more of the PT7749 Current Boosters which boost output current in increments of 15 Amps. One PT7700 power module and one PT7749 current booster can supply up to 30 Amps. By adding another PT7749 in parallel, the output current can be boosted to 45 Amps of precisely regulated, low-voltage power!

With efficiencies approaching 90%, the Big Hammer is offered in two output voltage ranges from +3.5V down to +1.3V that are easily programmed with a 4-bit input. Current boosters automatically track the output voltage of the PT7700. A differential remote sense feature is also provided which automatically compensates for any voltage drop from the power module to the load and greatly improves transient load response. The output of the Big Hammer (along with any current boosters) can be easily turned on and off with a digital signal to its standby pin.

Both the PT7700 and PT7749 are available in flexible 27-pin SIP packages which include vertical and horizontal through-hole and SMD pin-outs, allowing the designer to meet the most demanding PC board mechanical constraints. In OEM quantities (1,000 units), the price for the PT7700 is $29.50 each and the PT7749 is $27.50 each. Samples are available now.
