POWER TRENDS’ NEW FULL-LINE CATALOG INTRODUCES NEW SWITCHING REGULATORS

Batavia, IL -- Power Trends, Inc. has just released a new 72 page full-line catalog for its Integrated Switching Regulators (ISRs) and DC to DC Converters. The catalog introduces significant new products along with extensions to existing product lines. Complete specifications, photos and standard applications are provided for each product, along with mechanical configuration options and ordering information. Over 20 pages of the catalog are devoted to relevant application notes.

New products featured in the catalog include two new series of Integrated Switching Regulators (ISRs) that convert +5V to either ±12V or ±15V. The PT5020 (positive to negative) and PT5040 (boost) series ISRs make the job of providing plus and minus voltage rails easy and affordable for all types of analog and communication circuits.

The PT5020 series ISR is a positive input/negative output converter that accepts inputs from +4.5V to +7V. It uses a “buck-boost” topology with a switching frequency of 1 MHz and only one output capacitor (100µF) is required for proper operation. Available laser-trimmed output voltages include -3V, -5V, -9V, -12V, and -15V with output currents as high as 1.0 amp. Standard features include internal over current, short circuit, and over temperature protection.

The PT5040 series ISR is a step-up (boost) converter that accepts input voltages from +4.5V to +11V. With a switching frequency of 650 kHz, it offers conversion efficiencies as high as 85%. Only one output capacitor (100µF) is required for proper operation. Available laser-trimmed output voltages include +12V and +15V with output currents as high as 1.0 amp. Standard features include internal over current and over temperature protection.

Both the PT5020 and PT5040 series offer flexible mechanical configurations with vertical through-hole, horizontal through-hole, or surface mount 3-pin SIP packages. Optional heat tabs are also available. Potential applications for these products include powering op amps, D To A converters, ECL, ethernet, or any circuits requiring negative voltage rails. Price is $10.55 each in OEM quantities (1,000 units).

Also included in this catalog is the new PT6500 series 5V to 3.3V/8A Integrated Switching Regulators. This product family offers output voltages from 3.3V down to 1.5V. They are excellent power sources for low-voltage logic ICs, microprocessors, and bus terminating voltages. They operate from an existing +5V rail eliminating the need to redesign the central power supply. The PT6500 series packaging provides designers great flexibility with choices of vertical, horizontal and surface-mount configurations. A heat tab may be added to enhance thermal performance. Internal short-circuit and over-temperature protection are provided, along with adjustable output voltage and a standby function.
